Skateboard Superstar Tony Hawk Shows Off His Skills in Davenport
Hundreds of people turned out to the Davenport Skate park Saturday to watch pro skateboarder Tony Hawk perform. He was in town as part of his Birdhouse on the Road tour, sharing his skills and a message about getting active.
Organizers handed out free shirts and swag, along with showing off tricks and giving the several hundred fans in the crowd an exhibition-style performance.
"It's just amazing how big it's gotten and there's just more appreciation than ever, and I just love to be part of that," Tony Hawk said. "You know, the fact that I can still skate at my age and still do most of my tricks and perform at a top level makes me want to go out and do it."
46-year-old Hawk says he hopes the event inspires kids to skate or to try new tricks and just be active in general.
