Two men are behind bars and facing charges in connection with two early morning shootings and an arson in Burlington.

26-year-old Donald Watkins and 30-year-old Virgil Griggs, both of Miami, Florida, were taken into custody Sunday morning.

Police say their alleged crime spree began around 1:30 a.m. outside Fun City. According to officials, an altercation with another group led to Watkins firing a gun, leaving two people with gun shot wounds to the upper body.

Police say Watkins and Griggs then took off, driving to the 200 block of Hayes Street where they allegedly took part in a drive-by shooting. The bullets struck several vehicles and apartments.

From there, police say the men drove to the area of Oak and Ashmun streets and then set fire to the vehicle they are accused of using in the drive-by.

Officers were called to the Howard Johnson Hotel for a person with a gun at 3:50 a.m. That's where they say they found Watkins and Griggs, who were taken into custody nearly two and a half hours after the first shootings and just up the block from that scene.

Watkins is charged with two counts of willful injury, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, and arson. Griggs also faces intimidation and arson charges.

There is no word on the conditions of the shooting victims as of the time of this posting.
