Moline is among a few area communities asking for the public's help to fill sandbags.
Crews spent much of the day at public works using both shovels and a couple of machines. They hope to have nearly 30,000 filled by July 2nd and say volunteers really help the process move along.
"We've had volunteers here all day and helping out with operations," Moline park operations manager Rodd Schick said. "We're doing pretty good now, building up a little bit of a surplus."
Moline crews say sandbags are already in place at many areas that need protection like areas downtown and near the WIU Quad Cities campus.
Volunteers are still welcome on July 2nd.
