There's a big change for this year's Quad Cities Criterium bicycle race.
The QC Bicycle Club announced it will be moving to a new course in the Village of East Davenport. It's previously been contested in both Moline and The District of Rock Island.
Each year on Memorial Day, close to 600 participants travel from around the Midwest. Davenport city officials are excited about having it and say they'll work to make sure the course is ready to go.
"We really want this race to be successful, we really want this race to be safe," Davenport Public Works Director Mike Clarke said. "Knowing that the bicyclists are traveling at fairly high speeds with fairly high pressure small tires, we're gonna pay a lot of attention to making sure the surface itself doesn't have a lot of linear cracks that could throw those front tires off and cause an accident."
The course start and finish line will be located on 11th Street ascending into the hills of McClellan Heights before plunging back down 12th Street to the finish.
