Rockridge To Decide On Schools

Posted: Updated:

Voters at the Rockridge School District will decide whether to pass a referendum to build a centralized elementary school and close the three existing elementary buildings.
The group behind the project, "Rockridge Forward," says the measure would save $375-thousand a year. But the "Save Our Schools" group says taxes are already too high.
The project would cost nearly $15-million in bonds and bring taxes up $175 for a $100-thousand home.

"If anything it will make our properties less valuable," the group's Karen Hilgers said. "The larger the tax increase, the harder a buyer is looking at that property. Is it worth the taxation?"

Supporters of the project say taxes will go up for current building maintenance anyway.
The referendum will be on the March 18th ballot.
