Muscatine Sees A Decrease In Crime

Posted: Updated:

Efforts by Muscatine police to decrease crime in the city have so far been successful according to a new crime report.

Officers attribute the decline to a few programs they've developed like the street crime unit, coffee with a cop and the night shift program which puts more of an officer presence at bars.

Business owners say they can also see the difference in the community and welcome the extra police presence.

"It does kind of keep people aware that they're safety is important not only to the bar, but the city," Boonies on the Avenue's Mike Kleist said. "They're looking out for us."

Muscatine police say they will continue to use these programs as long as crime continues to go down.
