It's a relief for many Rock Falls residents as running water was restored this morning.
This comes after city officials turned off the water because a power outage caused a pump at a sewer substation to stop releasing raw sewage. That triggered concern that some of it may have gotten into the water.
Now the water is back on but there is a boil order in effect through Sunday.
And with the boil order in place it's important for area restaurants to follow certain procedures to keep customers safe.
That's why Whiteside County health inspectors are going around making sure restaurants do just that.
"They're not gonna be using most of all their dishes," Whiteside County Health Inspector Jeff Deets said. "Everything needs to be throw away, single use items. They need to boil the water before doing any kind of sanitizing of dishes."
The same goes for residents. Officials say the water needs to be boiled for five minutes before cooking, drinking and even washing your hands. To disinfect dishes officials say use the boiled water along with one teaspoon of unscented bleach.
