The QC native who's dedicated much of his life to cleaning up America's waterways was announced last night as the 2013 CNN Hero of the Year.
He was chosen through a public vote online, up against nine other nominees from all over. Pregracke's nonprofit, Living Lands and Waters, and volunteers have removed more than seven million pounds of debris from rivers across the country and his crew is proud to have so much community support.
We're humbled, a little shocked with all the other great worthy candidates and causes for an international contest like this it's really awesome," said Mike Coyne-Logan.
For being named hero of the year, Pregracke receives $250-thousand to continue his work and he plans to share some of the money with all the other CNN hero of the year nominees.
You can see him receive the Hero of the Year Award on December 1st on CNN.
