Local Middle School Joins Anti-Bullying Initiative
Students at Glenview Middle School joined others across the country in a national campaign designed to combat bullying.
The "Mix It Up" day get students out of their comfort zones of always interacting with their friends and forces them to be friendly with others.
It took place in the lunchroom. Students were not allowed to sit in their usual spot but were assigned to different seats so they could mingle with others.
Officials say it's a positive lesson that could help resolve conflicts.
"We have a very diverse population here and getting to know something different about a different culture or a different person helps us learn more about them and in turn become more tolerant," said Maria Escarza, school counselor.
Students were only required to "mix it up" today but school administrators say they hope students will continue to reach out to new people.
