A Sterling man is charged with battering his five-week old daughter.

It happened on September 16th. Police say they were called to the 1800 block of Locust Street for an infant not breathing, with a significant injury to her head and numerous bone fractures.

After investigating, police arrested 21-year-old Terrance Jordan. They say there was more than one incident of abuse and now Jordan is charged with aggravated battery to a child.

"You'd think that parenting would take over," said Sgt. Bob Allen. "I know this individual's only 21 himself, a parent, I don't know. I don't know why someone would do something like this."

The baby was airlifted to Rockford. Police say she has been upgraded from critical to serious condition.
Jordan is in the Whiteside County Jail. His bond is set at $500,000.
