A decision to demolish the old Audubon School in Rock Island is causing mix-emotions in the community.
Last night school board leaders made the decision after weighing three other options that could have kept the building standing but, if the building did not sale the building could have continued to sit vacant after already sitting idle for three years.
"It's just sad to see something like this happen, it really is," said Tom Taylor. "I think if there'd been more cooperation among city officials and individuals, we could've avoided something like this."
"They just need to go ahead and do what they gotta do and hopefully something good comes out of it," said Luke Carlson.
The demolition will cost $224-thousand dollars then the district hopes to sell the land.
School officials have not said when the building will come down.
