Hundreds of Chinese visitors are in Muscatine this weekend celebrating 30 years of friendship between Muscatine and the Hebei province.
The celebration kicked off with a special art exhibit from a member of China's Association of Photographers, Mr. Bai.
Seventy of his photos were showcased on Sunday at a gallery on 2nd Street, honoring the relationship between Muscatine and the city of Jin-Ding in Hebei province.
"It's a better way to engage the Muscatine people with the old friends, and Shi Jhin Ping, and how he feels about Muscatine and to continue the relationship we have developed which we will continue to develop over years," Amy Bakke, creative director for the Muscatine China Initiative Committee, said.
"I hope it heightens the awareness," she added.
All of the photos will stay in Muscatine and can be seen Monday morning from 11:00 to 11:30.
Meantime, the Chinese delegation will take part in a friendship ceremony, then tour the riverfront, and stop at a now familiar home.
Chinese President Xi Jinping made a trip to the U.S. last year that included a stop in Muscatine. There, he re-united with families he stayed with 27 years ago.
Back then, he came to learn about farming and agriculture. But his recent visit to Muscatine and other U.S. cities was to stress the importance of close ties between our countries.
