Community Care, Inc. In DeWitt Under Investigation
Investigators are looking into fraudulent medicaid billing payments at a DeWitt medical care facility. Now key employees in management at the Community Care Incorporated have been terminated.
The investigation is being led by Iowa Department of Human Services and Iowa Medicaid Enterprise. Community Care gets most of it's funding from the Medicaid program, but because state officials suspect improper activity the law requires officials to suspend payments when there is an investigation. Without funding, Community Care wouldn't be able to operate. The board of directors entered into an agreement with DHS and Medicaid Enterprise that would continue payment and operations.
The board of directors removed the existing management team and replaced them with a national management consulting company to run the facility. The management team that was let go is not being accused of any wrong doings. Officials are not sure when the investigation will conclude but hope they can keep services running for patients in the meantime.
