Church Helps With Lowden, Iowa Flood Damage

Posted: Updated:
Heavy flooding this past June greatly impacted some residents and businesses in Lowden, Iowa . Now, a local church is using grant money to restore homes for a dozen families.

The Trinity Lutheran Church took up a collection to help families in need and when that wasn't enough, the church found grant money and applied for it.
In the end, the church had $57,000 that they could use to support the community. One of the recipients say it was much needed help since some insurance companies don't cover flood damage.

"I was told there would be some help, but I never expected a check like we got," said Carol Boedeker. "We were really appreciative."

The Boedekers say that's one of the benefits of living in a small town. Everyone bands together to help one another.
