It's a hero's welcome on a day that the nation is observing those who died in the September 11th attacks.

The parents of Army Specialist Mark Smith are excited to see their son. This is his first time home since his deployment, but this isn't the parents' first time welcoming home a soldier.

They have three sons in the military. The oldest, who served in Afghanistan, is in the National Guard. A second son who is a marine who did a tour in Iraq. Now it's time to celebrate their third son's return after being deployed for 9 months.

"It's really just coincidental that he happens to be coming home today," said Greg Smith, Mark's father. "I do think about September 11th with three of my sons being in the military."

Smith says he was surprised to see everyone there showing him support. The Patriot Guard Riders escorted Smith and his family to their home in Polo, Illinois.
