Snowstar in Andalusia wants to get a special permit for summer events.
A popular ski area in the winter time could get some use year round. Snowstar in Andalusia wants to host summer events like concerts and car shows. The facility has to get a special use permit from Rock Island County, and officials estimate there could be 30 events from June to October.
Concerts would be on Saturdays, with other events throughout the week ranging from lumberjack to BMX competitions. It could mean economic opportunities year-round for the area, but many who live nearby are not on board with the extra comings and goings and noise.
"Honestly it kind of scares me. It just brings up more traffic on the road. We've got dogs, we've got neighbors with small children that ride their bikes and if you're introducing 500 extra cars on the weekend, it's going to do is just make things worse," said Shannon Fischer, who lives near Snowstar.
The Zoning Board of Appeals will consider the proposal again October 2nd and then the special use permit would need approval by the full county board.
