Heat In Davenport Schools Causes Illness

Posted: Updated:

Our high temperatures have schools across our area to take precautions to keep students from suffering heat illnesses and at one school, although classrooms are air conditioned, not all classes are.

One parent tells us she had to pick up her daughter from Davenport's Smart Intermediate because she was vomiting after attending gym class. That parent says a doctor confirmed it was heat exhaustion.

School administrators say there isn't air conditioning in the gym but there was a fan during class.

"Our physical education teachers are well aware of safety protocols and they follow them very closely many of them are coaches as well," said Dawn Saul, communications specialist of Davenport School District.

Administrators say they are still investigating what happened and want to assure parents that they take students' safety seriously.
