The City of Davenport has more than 700 abandoned houses, which can make neighborhoods look unattractive.
City officials are having a hard time keeping up with the improvement for those houses, and one neighborhood along Kirkwood Boulevard knows a little bit about this problem.
Residents say abandoned houses are eyesores. They are concerned that unkempt homes will affect their property value and create other problems.
"We have a lot of homeless people that come through and end up sleeping in the buildings," said Tiana Ponciano. "We've had a lot of crimes because of them."
The funding for demolitions has decreased over the years, only allowing the city to demolish about 30 per year. This means any new additions will be put on a long list, taking years before the city can do something about it.
