Local Fire Crews Honor Fire Victims

Posted: Updated:

Local fire crews in DeWitt are paying tribute to those that died in Arizona.

"I can't even imagine losing one, it's just tragic," said DeWitt Police Chief Bob Sandry. "It's a shame but we're gonna honor them."

First responders from eight area fire departments were on hand today, saying this tragedy hits close to home.
They say anytime you lose a member of the crew, it's just like losing a family member.

"It's kind of like a brotherhood thing," said Ken Bschbach. "A lot of guys you don't know that get injured, hurt, or you end up fighting a fire next to, but you know each other has each other's back."

So far, the Yarnell Hill fire has scorched 8,400 acres and destroyed about 200 structures.
