Consolidation May Be Coming To United Township Schools

Posted: Updated:

Parents of children moving through United Township High School's feeder schools may have a big choice ahead of them.

A new study suggests the four elementary school districts feeding into U.T. are looking into consolidating with the high school district.

The study says the new school district would have a stable population base and would have its curriculum aligned across the district, but some taxpayers would see their bills increase significantly if the consolidation is approved.

"Right now the tax rate is about 3.12, if we consolidate with the other elementary districts and united township the tax rate in our district would jump to 5.70," superintendent Andy Richmond said.

No school would be closed under the proposal. Richmond estimates voters would weigh in on any potential consolidation in two to three years.
