DOMA Struck Down, QC Reacts

Posted: Updated:

Gay rights advocates are celebrating tonight.

The Supreme Court finished up its term with a pair of 5-to-4 rulings that while complicated left pro-gay marriage forces claiming victory.
Fox correspondent Shannon Bream has more.

Gay marriage has been legal in Iowa since 2008 but it is not legal in Illinois. However, Governor Quinn says he hopes this will give the state the momentum it needs to get a measure passed.
Though not everyone is happy with today's rulings.

"I think it hurts the family to redefine marriage that's been that way for I don't know how many years," Marykay Shumaker said.

Many other Quad Citians view this as a victory. Some gathering tonight at the Unitarian Church to celebrate what this measure means for them.
