Davenport Mayor Bill Gluba joined members of the County Board of Supervisors and City Council to give one downtown bridge a makeover Saturday.
"This hat used to be red like that now it's a little bit green. But hey, ya know, I did get more paint on the bridge than I got on myself," Gluba told us.
The group started painting the bridge at Fifth and Brady streets around 7 a.m.
The project is part of the city beautification program that began three years ago with the painting of the Freight House boxcar.
This bridge in particular is in a highly visible area, and that's why it was selected for this work:
"Over 18 to 20,000 citizens, people from all over the world, all over the world, are going to be going up this hill during the Bix race, so we want to show the pride in our city," Mayor Gluba explained.
The mayor says the city hopes to get to the bridges on Main and Harrison streets next.
