Just over a month after Dixon Illinois' former city engineer resigned amid allegations he was using a city credit card for personal expenses, Dixon city leaders are considering an ordinance to formalize the city's credit card use policy.
City council voted unanimously tonight to place that ordinance on file.
Residents can review it until lawmakers vote whether to adopt the policy at the next city council meeting June 3rd. The policy would make it crystal clear that city issued credit cards are to be used only for official city business.
"There's a lot of work to do yet," Dixon finance director Paula Meyer said. "We have a lot of things that aren't documented. That doesn't necessarily mean that anything is being done wrong. It just may not be documented."
City officials say all of the city issued credit cards currently entrusted to city employees are already in compliance with the proposed policy.
