Celebrating Armed Forces Day

Posted: Updated:

The US military plays a major role in the world, our country, and the QCA, and on this Armed Forces Day, we say thank you to the men and women who serve.

Davenport's annual Armed Forces Day celebration at the Brady Street stadium caps off Military Appreciation Week in our community.

It's a time to honor all military members, past and present.

Each branch of the military was represented, along with members of veterans organizations and Junior ROTC programs.

But no matter what uniform they wear, people celebrating tells us this is a great opportunity to thank everyone in uniform for their service.

"We really don't have a huge contingency of soldiers here in Rock Island, but the few we do have, we need to let them know we appreciate them. I'm really humbled by all that they sacrifice by either going overseas or just being away from their family and friends," said Major Scott Harper, of the Military Explorers.

Armed Forces Day was created back in 1949 as a single day to celebrate our military.
