Boating Quad Citians Told To Be Cautious

Posted: Updated:

Taking a tour out on the river this weekend may sound like a good idea but conservation officers say think again.

For Quad Citians wanting to go boating, it may be best to hold off as the river levels are still at flood stage and the high waters could be dangerous for boaters.

"The current is really fast right now with the river being high," Iowa DNR conservation officer Ed Kocal said. "Let's say your engine dies, you're going to be moved downstream in a pretty fast rate."

There is also a lot of debris in the water and the debris can damage your boat but if you do hit the river this weekend, officials say make sure you have passengers on the boat to help spot debris.
