The Bettendorf Planning and Zoning Commission approved splitting the lot of the current Homeridge Hotel into three new areas. The owners will demolish the hotel this summer and build a five-story Hilton Garden Inn.
Another local developer is planning to buy the newly created space in the front of the hotel. That space can house two separate buildings for restaurants or retail stores.
The hotel owner says it was due for an upgrade.
"The building was first built late 60's early 70's, so it's kind of toward the ends of its useful life, so we kind of felt without an elevator and some antiquated systems," V.P. Of Kinseth Hospitality, Bruce Kinseth said. "We felt we could get more out of the site."
The City Council still needs to give its final approval to the plan. They're waiting for Kinseth to work out the final details with the Hilton company.
