The NTSB is recommending lowering the blood alcohol limit to .05.
The National Transportation Safety Board wants to limit alcohol consumption for drivers even more. The organization voted to recommend to lower the blood alcohol limit to 0.05. Currently it's 0.08 across all fifty states. NTSB officials say lowering the standard will help save lives but the board can only make recommendations. It is up to each state to change the laws.
The last move from 0.10 to 0.08 blood-alcohol levels took 21 years for all states to implement. The NTSB also suggests installing ignition interlocks for all drunk driving offenders.
