Sunday was a day to honor area law enforcement and those who have fallen while protecting our community.
It was the annual Quad City Area Police Memorial Service.
Since 1869, 46 Quad Cities officers have been killed in the line of duty.
The memorial started at Heritage Church in Bettendorf, and a motorcade led a procession to the Rock Island County Justice Center, where officers and families placed flowers for each of the fallen in a wreath at the memorial there.
"Because we are the Quad Cities and we encompass many cities, it gives us an opportunity to come together," Moline Police Sergeant Terry Garmon said.
"And it's that unity of the Quad Cities that's just really special. A lot of areas don't have police memorials," he added
This is the 12th year for the ceremony.
