MidAmerican Energy Warns Illinois Customers of Scam

Posted: Updated:

MidAmerican Energy customers in Illinois, beware. Scammers, pretending to be from Ameren, are targeting you and your personal information.

MidAmerican Energy officials say several Illinois customers have called the company to report that they are receiving multiple robocalls with a recorded message claiming to be from Ameren.

In some cases, the message states Ameren can help customers save money on their utility bills.

MidAmerican Energy says it wants its customers to know that there are no alternative retail electric suppliers registered to solicit MidAmerican Energy customers in Illinois.

The company is working with Ameren, the Illinois Commerce Commission and local authorities to try to determine the source of these calls.

Credit card numbers, account information and personal information should not be provided to suspicious callers. If a customer receives a suspicious call, mailing, email or other type of unusual contact or offer from a person or company, the customer should end the call immediately and notify authorities.

Customers also should call MidAmerican Energy at 888-427-5632 to report the incident and seek assistance.
