Moline Cuts Could Come To Schools

Posted: Updated:

The Moline school district unveiled a 3-year plan that district officials say could make the education experience for students better.
However, the plan also includes closing two elementary schools.

The district wants to close Garfield and Ericsson Elementary Schools and possibly use Ericsson as a community center.
The plan also calls for renovating Hamilton Elementary and increasing security in other schools. These changes could save the district more than $2-million per year.

"This is not something we are thinking of doing in two weeks," Moline Superintendent Dr. David Moyer said. "This is something we have two years to plan for if the board approves it."

Parents will have three opportunities to voice opinions at community information sessions.
The first one is Thursday night at 6 o'clock at Ericsson Elementary School. A decision won't come until the May 13th board meeting.
