Davenport's Blackhawk Hotel Gets AAA's Four Diamond

Posted: Updated:

A Davenport landmark gets four diamonds. And tourism experts say it's just another reason for the QCA to shine.

It's AAA's Four Diamond award, presented to the Hotel Blackhawk Thursday, making it the only hotel in our area with this rating.

It is one of just three in Iowa and a handful in Illinois. All of them are in Chicago or the suburbs. And it brings business not only to the hotel, but the entire area as well.

AAA reps say the Blackhawk has earned it.

Field Manager Judy Meyer tells us, "What they've done here is absolutely stunning and it's beautiful, the upgrades, the amenities, the top shelf service they provide."

It's something guests tell us they appreciate. Diamond ratings are something they look for. Like Thomas smith, who is from Dallas and now staying here.

He says, "Four diamonds. You see that and you know that number one, the rooms are gonna be clean. That seems to be the biggest thing right now. And number 2, is that you're gonna get excellent service. And if I'm a repeat customer, they're gonna know my name."

He says that's what's happened so far. Referred here himself, Smith is now bringing business in.

"I do meetings here. The next step is I'll do my district meetings here, or regional meetings."

Tourism experts say that's the way it works.

Joe Taylor with the Quad Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau says, "My experience is showing more and more that there are any number of ways travelers research a community. One of those is certainly the directory. Others are word of mouth through those that have stayed here before.

Like Thomas Smith. "The support staff is awesome. The food is second to none."

Hotel staffers say they've worked hard in just 2 1/2 years to make that happen.

While a small percentage of guests are local, many are regional or international, experiencing the QCA while they enjoy their Hotel Blackhawk experience.

Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing Tim Heim says, "I think it raises the bar, and I think it's something very special to the Quad Cities market. "

Earlier this month, the Blackhawk became affiliated with Marriott, as one of it's Autograph Hotels.

It has also been named a 2013 Recommended Property by Forbes Travel Guide.
