According to a Reuters article, Northpark and Southpark malls are for sale.
We contacted Macerich, the parent company of both malls, and a representative says the company does not comment on rumors and refused to answer any questions. This news comes as revitalization efforts are underway at Southpark mall.
A task force, which is made up of city leaders and members from the chamber of commerce, say the Reuters article does not change anything.
They will continue to work with Macerich on fixing up Southpark mall.
"Until we've had an opportunity to talk to them I think it's going to be difficult for us to assume they're not committed to this property," Moline City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher said. "We're hoping we will continue our conversation with them and it will lead to new investment in the community."
The next step for Southpark mall is city council will vote on making it a tax incentive district. Then in June, Macerich is expected to have conceptual drawings.
