Convicted Drivers May Need Breathalyzer Devices In Iowa
Drunk drivers would have to face tougher consequences in Iowa thanks if new legislation is approved.
This bill would require all convicted drunk drivers, not just repeat offenders, to install an interlock device or breathalyzer in their cars. Currently, first time offenders are not required to do this.
With the interlock device a person must blow into the breathalyzer before the car will start.
"If you go out and you have one drink, it's not going to let you start your vehicle," Mechanic at Gravert's Auto Jared Graver said.
Some interlock devices have cameras so the driver can't cheat the device.
Mother's Against Drunk Driving and police say this method works and they hope to see it in all drunk driver's cars soon.
