Day five of the teacher strike in Dixon is coming to a close and the teachers union and school board are once again at the bargaining table trying to find a solution that works for both sides.
This is the fourth meeting between the Dixon education association and the school district since the teacher's strike began Thursday morning. A few of those meeting lasting into the early morning hours only to end with both sides still far apart.
There has been some progress made though. The DEA is telling us agreements have been reached on things like the length of the school year and day and the responsibilities of teachers as far as professional learning communities and tonight both sides are sitting at the same table inside the district office.
That's progress too, since last week the DEA was downstairs and the school board upstairs while a mediator acted as the go-between.
That said, heading into tonight's meeting there were some big issues still be to be hammered out among the biggest: salaries, insurance and retirement.
Many parents and students who turned out tonight to show the teachers their support saying the strike can't end soon enough.
