School Remembers Galesburg Boy Killed By Dog

Posted: Updated:

Galesburg police have released more information about a dog attack that killed a 7-year old boy.
Police said Ryan Maxwell died from injuries he suffered during Saturday's attack.

At Maxwell's school, classmates remembered the boy who everyone said was good and helpful. A memorial has been set up at Ryan's desk.
Students filled the empty desk with cards, flowers and bears. The entire school also wore a special pin to remember Maxwell.

"Our school colors are black, silver and white, so we had these ribbons made up to help us remember Ryan," Nielson Elementary Principal Matthew LeClere said.

Galesburg police are investigating the attack.
Officers responded to a home after receiving a 911 call about a dog attack.
When police arrived the dog was biting Maxwell. As officers tried to help Maxwell, the dog turned on them and they shot the dog.
Maxwell was taken to the hospital where he died.
