A Galesburg child has died after police say it was attacked by a dog.
Galesburg Police responded to the call for help just after 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon.
When they arrived at the house on Whiting avenue - where the seven-year-old was visiting - they found the dog biting the boy.
Officers were able to disengage the dog from the child, but were forced to shoot the dog after it turned and tried to attack them.
The child was taken to Cottage Hospital for treatment, where he died from his injuries.
The incident remains under investigation.
The child's name is being withheld, pending notification of family.
