Dixon teachers will officially go on strike in just a few hours.
Teachers will picket at several schools all over Dixon, including the district office.
The union and district have been negotiating a new contract for almost a year. The two sides cannot come to an agreement over salary and working conditions.
Teachers want higher pay and smaller class sizes. However, the district said they can't afford it.
Many parents said they support their children's educators.
"They aren't just fighting for themselves, they're fighting for our kids," parent Tara Thrasher said. "There's a lot more issues, people are concentrating on if they're getting fair wages, it's more than that. There aren't enough teachers for the students."
The district will provide child care for K through 5th graders starting Monday. Both sides will return to the bargaining table tomorrow evening.
