A house fire in Rock Island forces seven people from their home.
Three of them jumped to safety, three more able to walk through the front door but one had to be rescued by a police officer.
He was on patrol just blocks away and became one of the first on the scene, spotting a man stranded on the roof and talking him down a ladder put up by a neighbor.
"He proceeded to finally, slowly make his way down," Rock Island P.D. Patrolman Daniel Johnson said. "It felt like hours going by, probably only a matter of seconds though, but it felt like an eternity."
Johnson has been with the Rock Island Police Department almost two years.
This is the first time he's encountered anything like this. Meantime, firefighters were able to get the blaze under control in about 45 minutes.
The Red Cross is helping the people who lived here.
