Burlington Teacher Accused of Lying To Police

Posted: Updated:

A Burlington fifth grade teacher is accused of lying to the police about a potential threatening note.

A Black Hawk Elementary teacher Lauren Moyers initially said she found the note in the hallway, picked it up and turned it in to school officials who later called the police. However, through school surveillance video the police was able to see that Moyers lied about where she found the note.

Moyers changed her story and said she was trying to protect a student from getting in trouble.

"You can't help but be a little judgmental but at the same time you hope there's a different story or something got confused," parent Heidi Westlake said. "You don't want to think that about somebody that is teaching your children."

The note was confusing and read "Shooting 1:45 my dad, Blackhawk."

It turned out to be a false threat and it's still not clear who wrote it but police say they took action because they don't know if they can trust Moyers anymore.
