Students and parents in the Davenport School District are speaking out against a proposed budget cut they say would gut the Talented and Gifted program at Central High School.
The cut in question would consolidate the "TAG" program for all the high schools and eliminate the full time TAG teacher position at Central.
It was a packed house at tonight's school board meeting as more than two dozen people stepped up to the microphone to voice their objections.
They said losing that teacher, Mrs. Gail Heninger, would just be unacceptable.
"The TAG program at Central is really a thriving program, and it's done a lot for me and hundreds of students at Central," Central High School Senior Claire Rayburn said. "I just think it's really important that it still remains a full time position."
More than 250 people have joined a "Save Mrs. Heninger" Facebook page in the last few days alone.
The Davenport school board told us they were reserving any comment until the meeting is over.
