With Valentine's Day fast approaching, QCA florists are already busy filling orders for flowers.
Many of those orders are coming from online from websites like FTD and Teleflora.
But, local florists say we need to do our homework when we place those orders online.
Gretchen Ashley, a floral designer at the Green Thumbers, says while you may be calling a 1-800 number to place your order, it is actually the flower shops right here in town that will end up filling it.
With the website acting as a middle man, customers may pay higher prices and are charged hefty service fees.
Ashley says the stores don't benefit either - they only get to keep a small fraction of the money made.
She also says the pictures online can be deceiving:
"They'll show you a picture of something online and they will tell you what is in it, but the pic they show you is often the deluxe version, and then they will price it for the standard version, so what you think you are getting is not what you're getting," Ashley explained.
Reps with FTD tell us the vast majority of the orders placed with them arrive as requested, to customer's delight - and that is reflected in an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau.
