Knox County Sheriff's Office Investigating Fatal Crash

One person was killed, and another injured, in a single-car crash in Knox County Saturday night.

It happened on the 900 block of Route 97 near Gilson, Illinois.

When emergency crews arrived, they found the 2009 Toyota Yaris in a cornfield on the east side of the road.

Apparently, it had rolled over several times.

The driver, 72-year-old Sammy Marksity was pronounced dead at the scene.

His wife, Karen, was air-lifted to St. Francis Hospital with a broken leg and injuries to her head.

Officials say both were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

The cause is still under investigation.
