Governor Quinn's State of the State

Posted: Updated:

Job creation and support for veterans were among the topics Governor Quinn addressed today in his State of the State.

Quinn wants unemployed workers to gain skills in healthcare, manufacturing and construction to fill up the 140,000 job openings.
He also signed an executive order that will help veterans get jobs faster by allowing them to skip the extra training that some licenses require.

"But let's not forget one community that already has great technical skills and training. That's our veterans," Quinn said. "We need to make sure their military training counts here in Illinois."

Governor Quinn also wants to increase minimum wage to $10 an hour.

He also urged lawmakers to solve the $100-billion pension crisis.
