Rock Island Big Island Development Questions

Posted: Updated:

The City of Rock Island is buying 100-acres of land on Big Island but the Rock Island Conservation Club has a lot of questions about the sale.

They want to know what the city plans on building.

The conservation club manages 110-acres of land on Big Island and they're concerned about changes to the levee and the environmental impact a new development will have.

"Our concerns are the land and the natural lands are going away," Rock Island Conservation Club President Jay Pienta said. "Sometimes you have to think if that's more important than development."

The city would like to build either a big box store or a retail outlet on the land.

The development would cater to the thousands of people who gamble at Jumer's Casino which is right across the highway from the proposed development.
