There were several financial red flags in the Rita Crundwell case which is the foundation of Dixon's lawsuit against an accounting firm.
The City of Dixon accuses its accounting firm, Clifton Larson Allen, of negligence as Crundwell stole millions of dollars from the city.
The lawsuit claims the firm knew about the secret accounts as early as 2010.
Crundwell admitted to stealing $53 million from taxpayers.
She made up fake invoices from the state and then wrote checks to pay them off. Some of the fake invoices had errors like misspellings and no state logo, which the city believes should have been a concern for the accounting firm.
"It's hard to understand how that could go on so long, so much money missing and someone not know why," Dixon resident Tom Murray said.
The firm claims they advised various city officials in writing on multiple occasions.
A hearing for the case is scheduled for March 15th.
