Smoking Ban Anniversary

Posted: Updated:

Today marks the fifth anniversary of a smoking ban that affected us here in the Quad Cities area.

It seemed controversial in 2008 when the ban went into effect in Illinois and Iowa where people could no longer smoke in public places.

Critics said the law would hurt local business but years later, some business owners say they haven't seen it.

"Customer's were always complaining that they smell smoke here," restaurant owner Miltos Diakogeorgiou said. "A lot of people they didn't like it. I like it this way better."

He said he is happy the smoking ban is in place cause it helps him kick his habit of smoking and according to the Illinois Department of Public Health he isn't the only one the ban has helped.
