
So far, the city of Dixon, Illinois has $8 million to show after the sale of homes, horses, and other items that belonged to Rita Crundwell. During her time as comptroller, she stole more than $50 million.
City leaders say that even though nobody missed the cash at the time, the money from the auctions shouldn't be seen as a bonus. The city operated in the red by almost $20 million this year.
