Iowa governor Terry Branstad says the drought disaster is getting worse every day and spreading to more counties. He held a drought summit in Mount Pleasant near Burlington, Iowa.
More than 1/4th of Iowa's corn crop is now in poor or very poor condition. Livestock producers say they're feeling the pain too as pastures and creeks dry up.
The governor's fact-finding mission is designed to plot strategy to deal with the drought.
