Fire Damages a Bettendorf Apartment Building

One person is the hospital after a fire breaks out at a Bettendorf Assisted Living Center. Firefighters were called to Spruce Hills Village near the Bettendorf Library just after 12 p.m. Friday.

The fire started in the northeast corner of the building on Tech Drive. There are 63 apartments and when firefighters arrived they had their hands full putting out the fire, and going room to room making sure no one was trapped inside. Many of the residents evacuated once the alarms went off, but one woman says if it wasn't for her nurse, she probably never would have escaped.
