Beyond the Desk: Going Above and Beyond on Valentine's Day

Posted: Updated:

I'd like to dedicate this Valentine's Day blog to the thoughtful students at Davenport North High School.

This Valentine's Day, they showed their love for a fellow student-- by giving blood. They took part in a blood drive in honor of Brandon Sissel, a senior who was diagnosed with bone cancer last year. The blood drive for Sissel is part of Davenport North's "Brandon Sissel Spirit Week", during which students are also selling Valentines and carnations to raise money for Sissel's family.

"We hope that he just knows that we're all here for him, the whole school, we're all a family and that he realizes that we're all just, we're here for each other," said Brock Cavett, Student Senate President.

Valentine's Day is a holiday when we think of others. I applaud these students for going above and beyond that not only through today's drive, but by encouraging the community to do the same. This week you can help their cause by donating at any blood center location and telling them it's for Davenport North High School.
